Wildblood Macdonald
was founded in 1976. But over the past ten years Richard
Burt, Michael Wildblood and Philip
Wright, have grown the practice to its present compliment
of 16 technical staff with a reputation for high quality design
work.
In that period we have become particularly
well known for the design of children’s hospices and
sensitive housing schemes. But our experience and expertise
also extends over a wide range of other building types. Increasingly
we are undertaking mixed use schemes involving master planning.
We have a wealth of experience in the
planning system. Our understanding of planning policy and
guidance, coupled with our design skills have led to considerable
success in the planning applications and appeals that we have
handled.
The three partners, Michael
Wildblood, Philip Wright and Associate
Stuart Fullerton lead a team of architects and building
technologists in approximately equal numbers. Richard
Burt is a consultant to the practice. Administrative
support makes up a total staff compliment of 20.
Individuals bring to the team specialist
skills in planning, conservation, sustainability,
health and safety and a wide range of technical topics.
All members of staff are encouraged to develop these specialisms
through a programme of continuing professional development.
Often taking the role of lead consultant,
we regularly work with other construction professionals and
pride ourselves in being excellent team players in the procurement
of the buildings we are commissioned to design.
All projects are led by a partner who
works with a team assembled to reflect the skills
and expertise demanded by the brief.
We attach great importance to our open
plan working environment. This allows flexibility
and interaction of all members of staff on the full
range of work undertaken by the firm. Weekly work programming
meetings involving all of the technical staff also contribute
to this broad understanding of the aims and objectives of
the firm as a whole.
All technical drawings
are produced in Autocad, but staff members
are also conversant in a range of photo-realistic
imaging, presentation and 3-D modelling packages.
We operate a rigorous system
of quality control, adhering to the requirements
of an office manual of procedures. This is regularly reviewed
and updated.
Excellent design is
at the core of the practice. Wherever possible we aim to provide
sympathetic contemporary architecture, but
in all projects designs that respect the context of the site.
We attach great importance to the delivery
of well constructed buildings to agreed budgets and programmes.
But we also seek to provide that additional delight which
distinguishes good architecture from good building.
We also respond to issues of concern
that have wider implications. Not least of these is sustainability,
at all levels, ranging from the location of buildings to energy
conservation and the selection of appropriate materials.
We value our staff and make no discrimination.
Notwithstanding our delightful countryside office environment
we constantly seek ways to improve the conditions in which
we work.
