Wildblood Macdonald have secured planning permission for a contemporary extension to a 1930's detached property just off the popular Stray area of Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

The existing house has been subject to a number of extensions that have proved to be unsympathetic to the original mock-Tudor style of the property. The proposed extension plans to create a contemporary extension to the rear of the house, utilising an existing side extension whilst providing a more uniform contrasting appearance to the existing architecture of the house.

The new space will create a more open plan interior space, through the remodelling of the existing ground floor rooms to the rear of the property, perfect for the growing family to enjoy to its full potential. This space will then open out to the large garden and proposed terrace through the use of a full height sliding glazed elevation facing the garden, providing both a notable increase in light to the home as well as an ability to provide an aspect of inside-outside living.

The project offers a contemporary take on the black timber detailing of the existing house in the form of crisp fibre cement cladding panels that will frame the main opening to the garden. Within this stained timber panels help to soften the overall aesthetic, providing variation and relief to the sliding glass panels between. The simple styling of the exterior will remove the current cluttered appearance of the rear elevation, creating a significantly improved aesthetic to the rear of the property in this picturesque part of Harrogate.
