A new build medical centre in Wakefield with 6 consulting rooms and a health education centre, built over two floors and a pharmacy at the road frontage. All the public access areas are on the ground floor level with extensive staff accommodation on the first floor.
Built in an area of high unemployment and privation, there is a problem of vandalism and drug abuse in the area. The former doctors surgery suffered numerous attacks during unoccupied periods and drug offenders regularly abused the facilities during the daytime.
The new building has been designed for security during the night time period and clear observation and management during operating hours. It is a particularly rewarding aspect for the client that the community has responded to the high quality materials and comfort offered by the surgery environment and that there have been no instances of abuse of the new building since its opening in 2002.
