Mill House

Hale, Cheshire

Located on the outskirts of Hale in Cheshire, our brief here was to demolish the existing house on the site and replace it with a substantial ‘Arts and Crafts’ styled house that was fit for modern living and set within beautifully landscaped gardens that made the best use of a relatively tight suburban site.

In response to the clients being avid art collectors, the plan of the house was carefully arranged around a series of routes that were set up to provide controlled views of signature pieces of art. These vistas were then extended further to align with external sculptures set within the landscaped gardens.

The gardens themselves were arranged in a series of garden rooms that restricted the ability to see the whole garden at once and encouraged exploration. As well as providing the illusion of a much larger plot, this also helped maintain an intimacy close to the house.
