Country House

North Yorkshire

Situated in generous grounds, this project involved significant alterations to a substantial property to befit its stunning location in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Our brief was to remodel the house and grounds to a high standard to better suit modern family living, whilst retaining and enhancing original Victorian features.

The project combined two properties to form one substantial dwelling. Part of our brief was to connect the main living spaces at upper ground floor level directly with the gardens. We achieved this by extending the existing grand stair down to lower ground level and opening up the existing cellular rooms to create additional living space providing direct access to a new terrace.

The new open plan kitchen and dining room is now the heart of the house and successfully complements the more formal public rooms elsewhere. Upstairs, alterations were carried out to create an impressive master bedroom suite as well as guest accommodation, in keeping with this historical property.

The project included significant repairs and upgrading of existing services to bring the house up to current standards. A newly slated roof, bespoke guttering and repairs to chimney stacks have transformed the exterior of this notable property. The last piece of the jigsaw has been work to the external spaces, including reinstatement of a formal garden to the rear of the property overlooked by a new spacious terrace.
