Bolton Copper

Froghall, Staffordshire

A masterplan scheme for a former copper factory site in Froghall, Staffordshire that had become derelict due to disuse. The regeneration of the industrial site was considered a particularly difficult area to propose a new development and a particular challenge when creating the scheme.

The site is located in a picturesque area, in a beautiful and relatively unspoilt part of Staffordshire. Despite the towns small size, the industrial development of the area has been prolific over the last few hundred years. The project comprises the retention of the old Bolton Copper factory and provides for 8 hectares of housing, with various tourism elements including the Churnet Valley Railway, canal side holiday homes, hotel and retail.

Working with planning consultants, we elevated the development proposals from a virtual no-hoper to a site that is now recognised in the Local Planning Authority’s core strategy as a major regeneration site.
